The Daily Mirror reports on a number of alleged reprisal attacks on Muslims in Barking following revelations that Khuram Butt, one of the three attackers killed by police during the London Bridge terror attacks, once attended a mosque in the area.
Butt, who lived in Barking, is reported to have once attended the Jabir Bin Zayd Islamic Centre in the area. Ash Siddique, secretary of the nearby Al-Madina Mosque in Barking, revealed that a number of worshippers have been attacked since last Saturday’s atrocity.
Siddique revealed that a woman was allegedly grabbed around the throat as she waited at a bus stop. He also revealed that other women had allegedly been abused while the mosque itself has received threatening phone calls.
The mosque’s secretary said, “One lady was at the bus stop and she was grabbed around the throat. We’ve reported that matter to the police.
“We’ve had a number of ladies who have been verbally abused and a number of ladies who have been spat on.”
He added, “We’ve had a couple of telephone calls, physical threats – ‘we are going to attack you’ and that sort of thing.”
Anyone who suffers hate crime should report it to police on 101. In the case of immediate danger, contact 999 immediately.
