The Birmingham Mail reports on the Good Citizens award handed to a martial arts fighter who assisted police in arresting a man in Wolverhampton City Centre in October 2016.
Abu Khauteeb was honoured with the award by West Midlands Police after safely restraining a violent man who was resisting arrest, allowing the lone police officer to effectively handcuff the wanted man.
The trained MMA fighter then waited with the police officer until assistance arrived. The arrested man was then taken into police custody before being charged with multiple offences, including assault, criminal damage and possession of drugs.
Abu was nominated for an award from within the police force. A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: “Abu’s brave actions helped get a dangerous criminal off the streets and back behind bars, and he was duly presented with a Good Citizens award at a ceremony on Tuesday 5 December at Tally Ho!”
