The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, appears to have got himself into a bit of a pickle with his column in the Daily Telegraph yesterday.
Johnson wrote yesterday about how the Muslim Council of Britain had pounced on him for suggesting jihadists were ‘w******’ in an interview in late January.
Johnson wrote, “The other day I pointed out that many of these young men are – according to the security services – heavy users of porn. I was astounded to be denounced, on the front page of The Guardian, by the Muslim Council of Britain. A spokeswoman said that I was somehow attacking Muslims as a whole. Why on earth would she say that? Why is the MCB effectively claiming these porn freak jihadists for mainstream Islam?”
Johnson is right that his comments were denounced in an article on the Guardian’s front page on Saturday 31 January but it was not by the MCB but by someone at the Quilliam Foundation and a Mohammed Khaliel of Islamix.
The Independent today reports that the MCB have written to the Daily Telegraph to complain about its sloppy sub-editing stating, “We have investigated this and cannot find any such remark made to the Guardian.”
“So while he [Johnson] was ‘astounded to be denounced’ allegedly by the MCB, we are equally astounded that such a serious, false accusation can be published without fully checking the facts.”
