A newly-wed couple who ended up spending their honeymoon night in a jail cell appeared in court for sentencing this week after pleading guilty to public order and racially aggravated offences.
The couple, Kirsty and Nick Bigland, started an altercation with security staff at the Manchester Hilton in Deansgate after a heated row with reception staff over their room booking.
Kirsty Bigland pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault after shouting “Get off me you p*** b****** – you should not be in this country” at security guard, Mustapha Muhssen.
Manchester Evening News and the Daily Mail report that “Mrs Bigland, was jailed for 20 weeks, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
“She must also pay Mr Muhssen £150 compensation after she pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault.”
Her husband, Nick Bigland, who pleaded guilty to a public order offence at an earlier court hearing was a no-show in court for the sentencing hearing.
District Judge Mark Hadfield has issued a warrant for his arrest.
