Man who called Sikh neighbours “Isis slags” given 10 month prison sentence

The Derby Telegraph reports on the sentencing of a man who racially abused two female neighbours calling them “Isis slags” and “Isis bitches”.

Christopher Blurton, 50, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Derby Crown Court last week but was convicted on Friday 16 September of racially aggravated harassment.

The court heard Mr Blurton, an ex-serviceman, made threats to the women saying he would “slice them up” and posted them a note referring to “ISIS”. His victims, two Sikh women, said Blurton could be heard shouting “hope the dirty P**** die” and called them “Isis bitches” and “Isis slags.” The women also said Blurton told them he would “burn the holy Qur’an.”

Passing sentence on Friday, Recorder Adrian Redgrave said Blurton had shown “not the faintest glimmer of remorse” for the offence or the harm caused to the two women.

He said: “You frightened these two young women. They felt that they needed to move out.”

“Your criminal record shows that you have resorted to violence in the past and had committed offences when in drink,” Recorder Redgrave added.

Blurton was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
