The Western Telegraph reports on the sentencing expected in the case of Anthony Rees, 32, after he pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault at Haverfordwest Magistrates on 13 October. Rees was charged following an attack on Hussain Yossaff at a kebab shop in Milford Haven on 15 February.

Rees was said to have headbutted Yossaff and punched him repeatedly while threatening him saying, “I will kill you like what you kill Americans, [you] Muslims.”

Yossaff said in a police statement that Rees had “acted like a mad man.” At court, photographs of Yossaff’s injuries were shown revealing “bruising to the left eye, cut lips, swollen cheeks, and swollen ribs.”

Haverfordwest Magistrates’ sent the case to Swansea Crown Court deeming the sentencing powers available to the magistrate insufficient to punish Rees for the offence, according to the local paper.

Rees appeared before Swansea Crown Court on Friday 30 October for sentencing. He was jailed for 24 weeks and ordered to pay a £80 victim surcharge.
