Friday August 19 2016

The Reading Chronicle covers court proceedings at Berkshire magistrates last month including one case of religiously aggravated harassment.

The local paper notes John Barry, 58, admitted a charge of religiously aggravated harassment likely to cause alarm or distress.

Barry was reported after a passenger overheard him use the words “filthy f****** P*** B*******” and “ragheads” on a busy train.

The passenger who reported the abuse said it was perceived as “racially motivated” and was shouted loudly enough such that at least 60

people heard the abusive comments.

Barry was fined £120 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30.
