The Glasgow Evening Times reports on a fine imposed on a man who pleaded guilty to a racially aggravated offence after verbally abusing a young Muslim child and his relatives saying “I’m going to f****** bomb your house and I’m going to f****** kill the child.”
James Conner, 67, was identified in CCTV footage approaching the garden of a Muslim family in Glasgow and abusing the toddler who was playing out back. The young orphan, who came to the UK in 2014 after losing his parents and older brother in a gas explosion at their home in Pakistan, lives with his uncle and aunt.
On 29 April, Conner shouted at the young child as he played in the garden of his uncle’s house saying ““You shouldn’t be here, you should go to where you f****** came from.
“‘I’m going to f****** bomb your house and I’m going to f****** kill the child.”
A relative, who was in the garden at the time, also heard Conner saying “You are all f****** Muhammad”.
Conner pleaded guilty to behaving in a racially aggravated manner which caused or intended to cause alarm or distress by shouting, swearing, making threats when he appeared in court last month.
At Glasgow Sherriff Court this week, Sheriff Alan Miller ordered Conner to pay £400 compensation to the boy’s guardians.
Sherriff Miller told Conner: “There is no doubt your behaviour on this occasion was quite beyond the pale and highly offensive.”
He said it was “really unfortunate” for Conner to find himself in court at his age.
