Man charged after stickers warning 'halal is barbaric' found in Sainsbury's store in Salford

The Manchester Evening News and Daily Mail report on a man who has been charged with causing racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage after he allegedly posted stickers on food produce and equipment which state “Beware halal is barbaric and funds terrorism” at a Sainsbury’s branch in Salford.
Liam Edwards, 29, is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on March 18 to face trial for the charges.
During the parliamentary debate on halal meat earlier this week, fears expressed by Muslims and Jewish communities about the issue of halal meat being a smokescreen concealing deeper currents of Islamophobia and anti-Semitism was one of the points raised by MPs representing constituencies with Muslim and Jewish residents.
