London Assembly member, Murad Qureshi, has written to the BBC after an edition of Question Time broadcast on Thursday 5 February and featuring George Galloway MP, broadcast a remark by an audience member claiming “that there is a strong correlation with the rise in the number of Muslims in Europe and the rise in anti-Semitic attacks”.
The remark went unchallenged by the chair of the Question Time panel, David Dimbleby. Murad had now written to the BBC reminding it of its obligations as a public service broadcaster “to strengthen mutual understanding, tolerance and promote community relations in ethnically diverse and multicultural societies.
Murad has written to urge the BBC “to state at the beginning of the next Question Time that there is no evidence to support the claim that there is a correlation between the rising number of Muslims in Europe and anti-Semitic attacks.”
