The Daily Mail and Metro newspapers reports on the decision by retailer John Lewis to stock hijabs in its school uniform department at stores in London and Liverpool.
The retailer, which won contracts to supply school uniforms for pupils attending Islamia Girls School in west London and Belvedere Academy in Liverpool, will begin stocking hijabs for the school term to begin in September 2014.
A spokesperson for John Lewis told the Daily Mail, “We provide uniforms for 350 schools across the country.”
“The school informs us of the items they want to sell as part of their uniform list.”
