The Sun reports on a police appeal for witnesses after a 28 year old Muslim female in hijab was verbally abused in a Wilko store in Portsmouth town centre.

The incident happened at the Wilko store on Arundel Street at around 11am on 2 June. The man, described as white, aged between late 30s to early 50s, 5 ft 6 in tall and of a heavy build, is alleged to have used racially abusive language towards the woman in full view of other customers in the unprovoked attack.

Hampshire police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to question in connection with the incident. His description includes detail of long greying blonde or brown hair tied in a ponytail.

Officer Olivia Freeman of Hampshire Police said: “This is a report of racially aggravated harassment aimed at a young woman.

“This was unprovoked and unacceptable.

“The incident occurred in a public place, in front of other customers visiting the store that day.”
