Cllr Alan Craig, leader of the Christian Peoples Alliance group on Newham Council has organised a meeting for Christian clergy in the borough to discuss the Tablighi Jamaat mosque project in east London. The Bishop of Bradford’s adviser on inter-faith relations, Philip Lewis, author of the recent ‘Young, British, Muslim’, has been invited by the Rt Rev David Hawkins, Bishop of Barking, to speak at a meeting.
Following critical remarks by some MPs in the Commons as well as extensive news coverage on the building of the mosque, and the frequent allusions to its posing a threat to security, the meeting has been arranged to allow local clergy to understand the nature of Tablighi Jamaat and the possible impact on the local community of the proposed mosque.
