The Shields Gazette reports that a drunk woman smashed a window at the Bait – ul -Mamur Jame Masjid in South Tyneside.

From the local paper:

“Police were called to Baring Street in South Shields after Sarah Riley was seen on CCTV running amok at 5.30am.

“Officers told the 22-year-old to go home, but later found a window smashed at the Baithul Mamur Jame Masjid Mosque.

“When arrested, she said she couldn’t remember what had happened.

“Riley, of Ebor Street, South Shields, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

“Lee Poppett, prosecuting, said: “There was a call to police saying a woman was running around trying to smash car windows.

“CCTV confirmed it, and an officer went out to speak to her.

“There seemed to be no damage at the time, and she was sent on her way.

“Later that morning, a window at the mosque was found smashed.

“Riley was arrested, and said she had no recollection of what happened, but agreed it must have been her.”

“Defending herself, Riley said: “I apologise. It was totally out of character. I can’t explain it and it will never happen again.”

“Magistrates gave her a six-month conditional discharge and ordered her to pay £85 costs and £50 compensation.”
