BBC averting criticism over DEC Appeal by attacking Bowen

Media Workers Against the War (MWAW) are urging people appalled by the BBC Trust’s treatment of the Middle East editor, Jeremy Bowen, to write in and condemn the corporation’s cowardly attempt to deflect criticism of its refusal to broadcast the DEC Appeal on Gaza by attacking Bowen.

MWAW says: ‘The BBC Trust’s preposterous attack on Jeremy Bowen last week is a crude attempt to push back the wave of protest inside the BBC over the DEC appeal decision.  If Bowen is slapped down, they calculate that no other BBC journalist will dare to speak out.’

The Trust’s report, which partly upheld complaints made against Bowen, is being used by the pro-Israel lobby to push for Bowen’s dismissal. That the BBC’s coverage has been shown to be biased in favour of Israel makes the criticism of Bowen all the more absurd.
