Arrests after EDL Sunderland protest

Arrests after EDL Sunderland protest

Categories: Latest News

Thursday April 03 2014

The Sunderland Echo reports on arrests following an English Defence League demonstration in the city last weekend.

In the latest protest against the Pakistan Islamic Centre, six men were arrested for disorder offences. Five have been released on bail pending further inquiries while another will appear before magistrates on April 14th on charges of disorderly conduct.

The Pakistan Islamic Centre in Sunderland has been targeted on a number of occasions for protests by far right groups. A year ago, 13 men were charged with public order and racial harassment offences committed during an EDL demonstration in October 2012.
