Online news site Derry Now reports on the appearance of anti-Muslim graffiti on the wall of a house in the Bogside area of Londonderry.
The words “Oppose Islam Irish patriots” was daubed on the gable wall of a house in Limewood Street in Bogside and later removed by local community activists from the Creggan Community Collective.
Independent councillor, Gary Donnelly, who sits on Derry City and Strabane District Council, said he had spoken to residents in the area who were “disgusted at this narrow minded hatred.”
Cllr Donnelly said: “I would like to echo those sentiments and assure our Muslim brothers and sisters that this is not representative of the people of the Bogside.
“Derry people know only too well what it’s like to suffer from religious and political discrimination and persecution and there is no room in this city for this type of intolerance.”
The local paper does not state whether the incident has been reported to the Police Service of Northern Ireland or Derry City District Council.
