Online news site, This is Wiltshire, reports on an incident of racist graffiti at an underpass in the Gorse Hill area in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Residents reported seeing two swastikas and a message reading “Swindon is not for u Muslims” daubed in red paint on the pavement and walls of the subway at the end of Tydeman Street in Gorse Hill.

Swindon Borough Council were alerted to the racist graffiti yesterday and have acted swiftly to remove it. The local paper reports a resident having witnessed the graffiti at the underpass as early as Saturday.

Wiltshire police have stepped up patrols in the Gorse Hill area to reassure residents.

Sgt Gemma Vinton, of Wiltshire Police told the local news site:

“We are issuing a witness appeal and this is being dealt with as a racial incident.

“As a racially aggravated incident it is something taken very seriously by police and we are dealing with it at the moment.

“We are also going to be upping police patrols in the community for community reassurance and also make ourselves available to people who might be witnesses.”
