MEND STATEMENT: 11,000 Palestinian deaths are not enough for Parliament to vote for a ceasefire in Gaza

MEND STATEMENT: 11,000 Palestinian deaths are not enough for Parliament to vote for a ceasefire in Gaza

Categories: Latest News

Thursday November 16 2023

In a shocking and morally indefensible move, the UK Parliament’s recent vote against a ceasefire in Gaza on 15th November 2023 will be remembered as the day that the phrase “never again” was consigned to history.

Madeline Albright, the then US Secretary of State stated in 1996 that the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children as a result of US sanctions was “worth it”.

We ask those 293 MPs who voted to support Israel to continue its merciless genocidal bombing of Gaza; “How many Palestinian deaths would it take before you would support a ceasefire?”

From the way they voted , clearly 11,000 dead Palestinians, including 4,000 children, is “worth it”.

The electorate will not forget those MPs who voted against a ceasefire.

Nor will we forget the courage of the 125 MPs who voted for a ceasefire. Among them, the 56 Labour MPs who defied the wishes of Sir Keir Starmer. Their courage in speaking up for justice, and in some cases sacrificing political careers, reflects a commitment to principles over politics.
