Islam and evil of Racism

Categories: Past Event Articles

Tuesday November 20 2018

MEND had a black history and Islamophobia awareness month cross over event in the beautiful city of Leicester.

The event started with Shockat Adam Patel, the MEND Leicester Chair, talking about Islamophobia and the impact it has on real people. He highlighted the case of Zainab Hussain who was driven over twice sadly because she was a Muslim.

The conference was then addressed by Ustadh Mohammed Artan on the lives and history of the Muslim African diaspora in South Asia, modern day Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. One of the highlights of the talk was the narration of the story of Razia Sultana.

The final talk of the evening was delivered by Shaykh Zahir Mahmood. Shaykh Zahir spoke extensively about why there is no place for racism amongst Muslims and Islam. He spoke about the numerous narrations showing the Prophet peace upon him ended racism in his community. He then spoke about racism within modern day Muslim communities and how and why we should work to end this.

Overall another excellent event by the amazing MEND Leicester team.
