We were very honoured to launch this years IAM in Wales with a fantastic array speakers, all of whom have helped raise awareness of Islamophobia in their communities for many years.
We started the evening discussing the contributions of Muslim communities during COVID with Councillor Dr. Bablin Malik, who reminded us of the impact COVID has had on BAME communities as well as the sacrifice made by Muslims in the NHS during this pandemic.
Our next speaker Dr. Abdul-Azim, from the Muslim Council of Wales, reminded us the need to be vigilant agaisnt Islamophobia in all its forms and to organise as communities to have a united front against all forms of hate.
In keeping with the topic of Islamophobia in all its forms we had Huda Osman, from MEND’s Islamophobia Response Unit, and Samira Zarak, from Victim support educate us about the nature of hate crime and how to support and deal with incidences of Islamophobia.
We really hope all those that tuned in benefited from the contributions of our guests and will continue to support as we continue with our campaign throughout the month.
